Adding a piece of clip art to your photos is easy and fun to do. I
Open Microsoft Publisher. Select new blank print publication.
This will be your canvas that you will work on. You can use other
photo programs and most of these steps will be the same.
Insert your background picture. This would be your current
Avatar picture that you have saved on your computer. Go to the
menu - Insert - Picture - From File. Browse to find the the correct
folder, click on the folder to open it then click on the picture that
you want to insert. Now click on the Insert button that is in the right
hand bottom corner of your open window.
Resize your picture. Your picture should now be on top of your
blank page. You will need to resize your picture to fit the page.
Notice that when you click on your picture there are eight little
circles on the corners and borders of your picture. These circles
allow you to stretch your picture. Use a corner circle when
stretching your pictures to keep the pictures dimensions correct.
Click on a circle and hold your left mouse button down while
draging the corner to resize your picture. It is best to fill the whole
page with your picture. If your picture is a landscape portrait you
will need to change the page setup to landscape. File - Page
Setup - Choose Landscape.
Add your Santa Hat. Select from the file menu Insert - Picture -
Clipart. On the left hand side your clipart choices will open. Type in
Santa Hat in the search box. It is best to be online when doing this
so that you can access Microsoft's large inventory of clip art. Find
a Santa Hat that you like and double click to have it move to your
picture or Drag with your mouse.
Now you have a Santa Hat on top of your picture. You can resize
the Santa Hat using the circles that are on the border of your clip
art. To move the Santa hat just click on it with your mouse and
hold your mouse button down and drag your picture. If you want to
tilt your hat take the Green circle and drag it in the direction that
you would like your hat to tilt.
Sometimes you want your hat to flip directions. To do this Select
Arrange on the file menu, then rotate or flip. Choose Flip
Horizontally or Vertically.
Save your picture. When you are all done you will need to save
your picture as a jpg. instead of a publisher file. To do this Go to
File, Save as, Save as Type, Choose a picture format like JPeg
File Format. Choose a name for your file. Now your Santa Hat
Avatar should be ready to upload.
Enlarge the view of your working page to 100% or more. This will
allow you to see your work easier.
You can use this method for adding other photos to your articles.
Microsoft Office has over 150,000 free images.
If the hat you choose comes with a background attached you
should reselect your hat.
